LEAN PROCESSES SAVE JOBS AT MEAT FACTORY

Staff at a Cornwall meat processing factory will not lose their jobs after managers backed down on plans for redundancies.

Tulip Foods, who employ 2000 staff, announced in April that 98 jobs would be cut at its Redruth plant.

It said today, however, that the jobs would be saved by introducing Lean initiatives into its manufacturing, to include waste reduction and increased productivity.

Tulip's Drew Weir said "As a major local employer we take our responsibilities to our community very seriously. It has always been, and will remain, our intention to provide as many employment opportunities as possible while maintaining the ongoing profitability of our operation."
